The Mission

Driven by knowledge of the oceans’ critical importance to life on Earth, we are committed to helping find real-world solutions to the problems plaguing our seas.

The Work

Our primary initiative is the DISCOVERY Program, connecting generous vessel owners around the world with scientists and educators in need of time at sea.

The Impact

Since 1998, thousands of scientists, students, vessel owners, and volunteers have conducted ocean research and helped raise awareness of global conservation issues.

Your Role

We welcome vessel owners, scientists, educators, and anyone determined to protect our seas and play a role in the future wellbeing of our planet.

SeaKeepers is a registered not-for-profit ocean protection organization.

Our initiatives unite a diverse range of stakeholders, including scientists, academic institutions, government agencies, concerned citizens, and private and commercial vessel owners, all collaborating on ocean conservation and awareness.

Vessel owners and captains

The cost of going to sea is the limiting factor for many scientists and educators. Private boat owners therefore have a unique opportunity to directly contribute to ocean conservation by offering their vessels as research platforms.

The benefits are mutual, and the owner’s scientific interests are considered when pairing them with an expedition. The vessel owners’ resources and expertise enable more scientists to get out on the water, while guests and crew have the opportunity to participate in meaningful research with influential marine scientists.

Scientists

Experts in marine science perform groundbreaking research across all five oceans from aboard our DISCOVERY Fleet vessels. Successful proposals are paired with vessels that match the expedition’s needs, including vessel size and type, location, and itinerary. More

Alongside formal expeditions, citizen scientists play a major role: Vessel owners, captains, crews, and guests all have an opportunity to get involved in smaller-scale research initiatives. These include marine wildlife observation, instrument deployment, data collection, water sampling, and many other fascinating and worthwhile activities.

Educators

Providing students with hands-on marine science experiences is essential for building awareness and ensuring Earth’s future wellbeing. Teachers can access our free ocean conservation educational resources, including marine biology field trips, classroom and online lessons, lesson plans, and other activities.

Also, our professional development training allows educators to take their experiences back to their classrooms and share valuable insights with their students. Click here to explore adding marine conservation to your curriculum.

Volunteers

Volunteers and interns gain essential experience by being directly involved with SeaKeepers activities at sea and on land. These include K-12 educational programs, beach cleanups, scientific seminars, and yachting industry events.

Volunteers also play an essential role in SeaKeepers own social events, which include some of the most influential members of the yachting and ocean conservation communities.
